H Google Maps

Description: Like Autoroute & Google Earth combined. Don't bother with the "use GPS" option as the phone doesn't have built in GPS. (see below) It does have a location finder which is accurate to about a mile when it works. I assume it's based on the location of the phone cell transmitter and doesn't seem to work if you are just between two. It uses lots of data transfer so would wipe out the 10Mb limit very quickly!

Where:
Favourites > HTC > Applications > Google Maps
Or Google maps

Select the download option and follow your nose. It's easy, no extra files.

If you get an error message of "Installation of GoogleMaps _compressed CAB was unsuccessful." Then try disabling antivirus and trying again

GPS UNIT

I received this email about setting up a GPS module. I don't have one so have copied this without any editing

I got there in the end! My biggest problem was finding the passcode for my BT GPS (Dell BT 309 - code was 2003 for some odd reason).Once I'd found that it worked straight away.

Turn on your Bluetooth GPS.
On the phone go to Start, Settings, Connections, Bluetooth, 1.Bluetooth, Menu, Turn on Bluetooth.Menu, Turn on visibility. (not sure this is needed but I did it anyway)

Once Bluetooth is on select Add new device.(device searches for, then lists out, Bluetooth devices in range)

Highlight your BT GPS, then press Next.
Enter the passcode (most GPS units use 0000, but my Dell device was 2003)DON'T FORGET TO PRESS THE FN KEY TO ENTER NUMBERS

Press OK when connected.
Amend the name if you want to, if not just press Next.Click the Serial Port box to put a tick in it.
Press Done.

Your GPS unit should now appear on the list of devices.
Now press Menu, Com Ports, Menu, New Outgoing Port
Highlight your GPS device, then press Select
Try using Com6 and tick Secure Connection.Press Done
If you get a message saying that the Com Port could not be created press OK, then try Com7.
Once finished press Done repeatedly to get back to the start screen

Start Google maps.
Go to Menu, 8.Options, 2.GPS Settings and tick the box Set Manually, and COM 6 or 7 (depending on what worked above), and rate 38400 (or what ever your GPS uses, mine was 4800).Select OK.

Now go to Menu, 5.Use GPS.
Your location will now be shown using the information from the GPSr rather than the mobile network.
When you've finished using Google Maps don't forget to turn off Bluetooth to save your battery. On the phone go to Start, Settings, Connections, Bluetooth, 1.Bluetooth, Menu, Turn off Bluetooth.

Hope that helps someone!Laurie.
